I watch youtube for most of my TV type entertainment: Why are the scenes so short?

Many of the videos have a jump cut or a new scene about every 1 - 1.5 seconds. Sometimes the only way to see what is actually happening is to constantly pause the video or mute and slow the playback speed way down.
I assume this is some kind of trick to build excitement in the viewer?

It is rare to have a lot of wide angle shots, if that is what you are referring to with this statement.

I will use this as an example:
Title of video: We found a CRAZY car in a barn
Thumbnail of video: Man staring into the camera with his mouth open
‘Hey we found this car in a barn!
Cut to Scene showing the car in the barn that lasts 1 second
Then a Scene showing the front of the car that lasts 1 second
Then a Scene showing the interior of the car that lasts 1 second
And on and on like this for almost the entire video

It’s because the vast majority of people have such shitty attention spans.

That is the Michael Bay style of directing, constant moving shots, close-ups of faces and constant change.

You must have constant movement for this generation
1m or even 10s static shot of a talking head is a no no

The answer is you aren’t watching tv, you’re watching “content.”
I posted about it last week on the OT actually. It’s annoying as frick and I can’t stand it.
It’s in the similar vein of when I want to watch a video clip of something happening (doesn’t matter what) and it’s difficult to find just the actual clip itself. Everything is a video of some content creator talking over the video and “guiding” you through it. It’s asinine.

I never thought of that. You are correct. An astute observation.
