I think any supposed "major news story" about 47/Epstein will actually help 47

Of course it will come from some MSM/Left wing/Dim site/source and it will easily and resoundingly have holes poked in it and it feels like it could be a opportunity for Trump to to say see...it's all BS...and put a button on it and have it all blow away like a fart in the wind.

That's my thinking too. Initially it will look really bad then after the application of the Bongino rule and more information is leaked the narrative will shift. Maybe this is Trump's way of getting the Epstein information out and simultaneously protecting himself, family and friends from getting whacked if the theory that he is being threatened is true.

Trump has said he knew him and once he found out about him he kicked him out of Mar a Largo. I don't know what he is supposed to do.
