Fishing in venice

Headed down to Venice with small group this weekend. Initial plan is target trout early morning out towards Breton islands area. Then ride out for some snapper seas permitting! Any reports or other ideas are greatly appreciated. Anybody still finding trout out that way?

Can't speak on trout but red snapper were slow at first. Idk if it was lack of current or what but they were not very cooperative. We stayed a while and worked for them and put together a nice box of snapper.
Sharks were really bad. Probably lost about 10 really nice snapper to them. We had to pull them away from the rig with the engine to get them away from the sharks. Be prepared to lose a lot of tackle.
Edit: This took place at 12 mile rigs.

If you know how to snapper fish in open water--snapper fish in open water. very few sharks in open water.
The sharks are ridiculous by the rigs right now.
Trout have been HOT on Breton/the islands, but you need to be there at daylight or when tide is rolling. No tide=no fish. Some trout being caught on Central/HolyCross, but there's also an armada of boats there.
Not sure where you're planning to snapper fish, but that's a pretty good haul from the islands to snapper waters in a bay boat.

Are the sharks not as prevalent there in the winter?

Generally not as bad--but snapper season is generally not open in the "winter." Fall fishing is probably my favorite time if the quota is still open.

It closes typically around labor day weekend or something around that time

Generally yes--depends on the year, how the state is managing the season that year, and the quota overall.
I cant remember exactly what year it was they reopened it in the fall/winter (maybe 2023?) but that was a great time.

Update on trip. Trout were not at Breton. Had a few boats there with us and didn’t see anybody doing much. We caught 2. Ride all the to south pass to chase snapper. Found the armada of boats at seven miles rigs. Managed a couple but had lots of technical difficulty. Went back Sunday morning first thing. Managed 2 man limit. Still technical issues but salvaged the trip. Thanks for you guys input. Best of luck. Tight lines!

We were in Breton Sound Sunday. Tough day, 12 trout all morning. Got on some reds, but all bulls. Hit the islands, bunch of rigs and fish just weren't cooperating. Lots of lady fish at every stop. Fishing is frustrating some times because conditions were great except for a full moon.

Sunday as in yesterday? We were ~ 20 miles out of grand isle yesterday and we figured the guys in Venice were getting wet. Looks like yall had a much smoother ride than we did though.

Yeah, yesterday. Smooth until around 11, wind kicked up the seas a little but still could run 35 in a bay boat. Rain was mainly just west of the river. One storm came on east side around 3pm but we were at marina drinking by then. We never got rained on.

Hit up breton sound as well on saturday by stone island. Fresh water.
I suspect the south wind brought river water up
