We built a house and moved in 2.5 years ago. When we put the septic in, they did not bury it deep enough so the lids are only a few inches below the grass. This causes the yard to have discolored circles in the grass where the covers are. Putting them deeper is out of the question because I have the yard where I want it except for those spots. Will adding small layers of top soil over time help address this by adding a few inches of top soil between the lids and grass roots? I know this will take time but that is fine.

What are y’all’s thoughts? Thank you

I think you will always have issues unless you built it up a large amount with sand.

I don't know what your soil situation is or what the possible fill options are. What you want to achieve is to have the soil over the tanks drain like the rest of the yard. Areas filled with sand only may drain too quicky leaving you with water stressed areas during dry periods. Check with local landscape supply companies.

When you say lid below soil, is there no access to the tank? If you had it pumped, would they have to dig to a lid?
