We currently have Jose/ Hawk as assets and can include them in the Wizards trade to take on more salary or trade them separately. We also have Dickerson on a 2-way that could be solid depth. We are a center and vet PG/ SG away from a very competitive team and complete lineup.

Murray/ Fears/ ?????
Poole/ Herb/ ?????
Trey/ Bey/ Peavy
Zion/ Queen/ Karlo
?????/ Missi/ Dickerson (2-way)

Jose- 4.5
Hawk- 4.7
Reeves- 2.0

NTPE- (full 14mil from Olynyk trade)

TPE- $13mil (BI trade)

Can someone breakdown how we can use the exceptions? If we take in a big contract added to Wizards deal then would we lose the NTPE but still be able to use the 13mil TPE? Can we take back a +20mil guy and still get another 13mil player like I believe we can?

If we are able to get a center and add atleast (1) of a Dinwiddie/ Hardaway/ Beasley type player then I'm expecting an exciting season.

This is what i'd like, personally:

Poole/Herb/Zion/Queen/Missi
Frears/Trey/Trey/Trey/Karlo
Jose/Reeves/Peavy/Bey/Dickerson

When Dejounte comes back I probably give him Herb's starting spot and have him play 1 or 2, probably 1.

Could start Trey over Herb at the 2 and have Herb be the super-sub instead, but i opted for defense.

I am still super tempted to just say point-Zion for now at least:

Zion/Poole/Murphy/Queen/Missi is what I'd do then

Did you put Trey Murphy on the bench? Jesus

Regarding the exceptions, you only need to focus on the space up to the luxury tax. Doesn’t matter that we have the MLE, multiple trade exceptions, the Washington trade to add to, etc. All that stuff is great and give optionality, but it basically just means we can add about $10 million in salary to what we have, via any means possible.

I'd personally take 3 Trey Murphy's off the bench vs 1 starting Trey.

Trading Olynyk added $ to our NTMLE which is capped at 14mil. What I'm asking is instead of using his space for the NTMLE, how much can we take back in player salary if we use his salary + Jose/ Hawk salary to take on another contract?

If we saved $6 mil for the NTMLE does that mean we have $6mil + $9mil from Hawk/ Jose to add a player worth $15mil? Or could we then avoid the NTMLE and use Olynyk's full contract + Jose/ Hawk to take back a player worth over $20mil which would be better than adding a full NTMLE player at $14mil?

If we ignore using the NTMLE and choose to use Olynyk and the other guys to take back a player then can we still use the "full salary × 125% rule"? If that's the case then instead of using 14mil for NTMLE we would theoretically be able to take back $13mil (Olynyk) + $9mil (Hawk/ Jose) for a total of $22mil * 125% = 27.5mil?? Trying to figure out how to maximize the best player to take back and the highest priced contract we could afford.

Can we use Wizards trade to take back a larger contract instead of using Olynyks extra money for a capped 14mil?

You can’t combine NTMLE with salary. You have to do it separately. It’s only used to sign free agents.

Yeah. We can’t use the NTMLE here because it will hard cap us. The 125% works because we are under the first apron. So it’s better to choose Olynyk + Jose + Hawkins and take back a player up to 22 million

I like the discussion on the different exceptions we may have available, but I do have to quibble with these statements:

quote:

/ Hawk as assets

If Hawk is still considered an asset, I’d deal him this summer.

Wouldn’t deal Jose, at least until Dejounte comes back.

We are absolutely screwed if Dickinson is playing any sort of meaningful minutes next year

Gotcha. I just wanted to confirm we don't have to use Olynyk's salary for the $14mil NTMLE and could instead take back a player +$20 if we add in Hawk/ Jose.

Now with that being said... Would we still also have use of our other exceptions or the $13mil or would that be it besides min contracts?

We can use the TPLE and BAE if we are at the cap or over it. I would trade for Robert Williams who is making around 13 a year. Or try to get Clint at 22. He’s an UFA.

What about Jordan Hawkins or Jose for Nick Richards from the Suns? True 7 footer, expiring deal. Was really good in my opinion for the Suns, started 34 of 36 games. They for some reason added two more centers and I would have to assume Nick is the odd man out.

It works but I’m not sure if the suns wants more guards. They’re going to want wings or picks.

He is worth 4.7mil in salary as an asset. Has nothing to do with Hawk as a player.

There are several really good vet PG's that are better than Jose. If we can add Jose to take back a bigger/ better contract and still upgrade from him with a vet then you do it in a heartbeat.

He probably will be unless we add another center. Either way its better to have a 7' with upside than to not.

FYI flipping Hawk for Sam Hauser is probably the best 1 for 1 move we could make, just not sure what it would cost us.

Well, I was more thinking Jose but didn’t want everyone to immediately start throwing things. The Suns don’t have a PG on the roster, and obviously are familiar with him from our playoff matchup. Not that it matters, but also not nothing.

I don’t like not having a 7 footer on the roster, expect Queen to start as a backup 4, and can’t imagine what we would do if we lost Missi to injury.

Yeah I hope we sign Viktor Lahkin. Hes a UDFA. Not 7 ft (6’11) but plays big. Can shoot at the perimeter, pass a bit and rim protect. Reason he didn’t get drafted was because of age and being injury prone (lol.)

Trey is a guaranteed starter.

The shooting with your projected starting lineup would be brutal. Teams would pack the paint.
