You act like the Mid-Atlantic Gap has been unprotected up until this announcement. The US European Command held sway over this, which is still a US lead defense organization. This is just a shifting of responsibility and really doesn't make sense. Greenland is a territory of Denmark, and their residents are citizens of Europe.

Which has zero relevance to strategic defense, honestly. A threat to Greenland is a direct threat to the US. Their citizenship is irrelevant at that point.
