I worked for eight years in the east coast of Saudi and Kuwait in the late 1980's and 1990's. My first hand knowledge indicates that about 98 % of western support staff, fly families out of the region at end of the school year, and they did not return till September. This benefit for use was paid in cash amounting about 20 thousand dollars for my family.
The mandatory evacuation currently in process will provide an additional benefit amounting to about the same 20 thousand. double coverage for the hot season {135 F} evacuation will be loved by all. Rubio will be appreciated

Were you ever in the US Embassy?

"were you ever in the US Embassy"
Saudi Arabia in 1986 the US embassy was located in Dhahran and they would promote a couple social events a year for US expats. These were significant because behind the embassy wall, they would have real beer and pork ribs. The invitation would come with two beer tickets, wife did not drink beer so I had 4. For one event, folks I was with took the advance tickets to a print shop and produced 200 more tickets. We were popular.
In Kuwait, we attended the grand opening of the new US Embassy in about 1995. Same deal, beer and pork. I did buy a commemorative Embassy tee shirt I still have, that no longer fits. The wife was the US Doha Base choir director for church services for about a year,,,,which supported access to the base cafeteria for pork ribs. We would sit with the troops and boy were they young. They also had to carry their rifles to the table. awkward.
for a couple christmases we would have 8-10 US sailers to the house for a Christmas dinner, arranged through the embassy

I think by 89 (when I was there) that was a consulate and the embassy was in Riyadh. The parties there that I went to weren’t family/wife friendly. They consisted of smuggled in booze and women.

There was a Consulate in Jeddah on the Red Sea. We stopped there to resupply when Kuwait kicked off. I was Group 12 staff embarked on IKE. Funny thing is that RADM Lynch, now runs NewDay Loans, was the Battle Group Commander.
