coming into form and will he do even better in GW's Defense?

I honestly think that he needed those INT's at the end of the season to give him some confidence.

Something this team severely needs to address. The safety play has been absolutely atrocious the past couple of season and i dont think there is a single player currently on the roster who is capable of playing this position. In order for JD to be serviceable we need Grant/Smith to step it up big time and we need to bring in some safety help via free agency or the draft.

Not to mention improvement at man 2 man coverage and stop biting on everything in front of him.

Roman Harper needs to step the hell up this year or we need to cut his arse. I don't think that Kaesvahairn (sp) has the ability to be a starting DB in the NFL.

If we could draft a CB that turns out to be worth a shite, and Harper steps up, we could be set for a while in the defensive backfield. I personally think that is much more of a concern than LB.

I believe Tracy Porter could be a "damn good" corner if he stays healthy.

Drafting DB's into the NFL is so hit or miss

He would be fine if we played primarily cover-2 defense. We play mostly m2m. When he is out there alone w/o any help over the top is when he gets burned. You are right though, he bites on everything.

I agree with everything you've written here.
I might add that every CB we've played hasn't looked all that great (McKenzie included).
They all can't be that bad!
So, that leaves 3 things:
1. No push up the middle (Ellis will continue to help),
2. No pressure from the DEs (Smith & Grant not getting it done), and
3. Our safties get beaten as badly as a transvestite at an Oklahoma rodeo.

The DE and Saftey positions are the major problem.

He will never be a good man to man CB. He is however very good in zone.

Jason David is outta here once we find another CB in FA. You can count on that

same page adono, add Better Schemes to that list too. Even TV commentators were saying the Saints ran some of the most vanilla predictable coverage in the NFL.

I don't think anyone would miss JD but he did improve. His 5 picks made me laugh everytime. I could hear Saints fans everywhere, "WTF?!" I think McKenzie will renegotiate lower but if gone JD would still be needed. CBs and '09 cap hit-
McK $6mil
Gay 2.8mil
David 2.8mil
Porter 817K
Young 623K
Glenn probably Sunny Manor Rest Home

David didn't get burned much all year - hell McKenzie got burned as much as JD. Porter (whose nuts everybody loves to suck even though he played a whole 3 games - reminds me of Usama Young) got burned as much as JD in the Redskins game alone.

Now if you guys consider JD staying step for step with Steve Smith but getting outjumped or outwrestled for the jump-ball to be "getting burned" than I guess you have a debate. But Steve Smith is miraculous the way he routinely comes away with Delhomme's dumbass jump ball throws. Cromartie was like "oh no you dihn't" in the divisional playoff game and made them pay.

It was the safety play that sucked.

jump ball throws
That isn't a Jason David thing and it isn't a Safety thing. Our entire defensive backfield plays jump/underthrown balls like they have never seen them before or like they never even practice that stuff during the week.

Jason David has good ball skills, but being 3 ft 4 doesn't really compliment the jump ball well.

I agree with this. JD actually does play jump balls better than any other guy in our secondary but he's just so puny that he often times gets out muscled. McKenzie has really great ball skills as well and Porter looked pretty good in his limited time.

Young, Harper, Bullocks are horrible in most phases, but especially in ballskills.

I agree. JD is pretty damn good speed wise and timing.

His two major flaws:

Bites to easy on double move

So short he couldn't outjump a deer tick
