Just had generator installed. Just started for first time doing the 20 hour run before they come change oil . I flicked power off circuit breaker on generator leading to powering house. Manually started , going to let run 2 maybe 3 hours. This is where I am confused. When I am ready to turn off what are my steps. Would appreciate the help. I know to turn off, what do I do that get generator back to auto in case we need it? Thanks guys!

I can never remember the order, but there is a specific order, including breaker and off/on switch . I just YouTube every time.

Is this a Generac Generator. If so there are two switches one is manual and there is one that says auto. That is the one you need to push for standby power and will say ready. Also will display green light on the end.

Call the person that installed your generator?

Generator needs to run 20 hours to break it in. Then they come back out and change oil. Then we will be ready for 200 hours and hurricane season.

Mine will run Saturday also test run. It’s being broken in.

I never heard anyhting about breaking it in. That being said, the power goes off on a sunny day with a slight breeze in my neighborhood. It was getting to stretch it's legs anyways

Yep. The one thing I did when I installed my generator, and I don't understand why more people don't do this, is install a whole home disconnect between the meter and the ATS. This allows a few things first and foremost, it allows you to easily test your ATS and simulate a power outage. My unit runs automatically for 15 minutes once each week. But every other month or so when I think about it and I'm otherwise milling about in the backyard, I flipped the transfer switch to simulate a power outage and run the unit under load for between 30 minutes and an hour. This ensures the entire thing gets up to temperature and if there are any problems I'll know them sooner rather than during an emergency. The stress on the unit is very different when it's run under load versus when it is run simply to exercise it once a week. And second, the whole home disconnect allows you to do maintenance on the ATS and any other service you may have without having the light company come out and pull the meter. It's a very minor upgrade whenever you're installing the generator. Do it

I have switch that kills power to house so generator believes it’s power outage.
