I’m not a gamer , so maybe I missed something about the tv series. So Joel is killed while Ellie watched.
But an episode later he shows up at her door in the last scene. I missed any explanation in later episodes. Can anyone explain what happened to this clueless viewer? TIA

I honestly don't even remember this but I assume it was one of Ellie's flashbacks to earlier

That episode was a flashback to the days leading up to when he was killed. The conversation she has with Joel on the porch is the last conversation they had before she sees him killed.
