Looks like deal is close. State putting up 7 million 2.3 million for course upgrades at City Park . It seems like it would need more than that. I assume LIV may contribute some money for improvement in the golf complex

A thread on OT about it

The basics were “Welcome to Kingdom of Jeff Landry, where somehow you pay Liv the hosting fee of 5 million while everywhere else has been paid by LIV to host”

It’s been well documented that they have been using other countries “tourism” budgets for some of their events. I believe they weren’t planning to go back to either Hong Kong or Singapore, but they were paid to go.

And the locations here?

You yourself starting all the original LIV Nola threads and bragged about how good it would be because LIV would pay for everything

It’s extremely rare for any tour, anywhere, where the location pays the hosting fee That kinda is the opposite of what hosting fee means

Obviously this is a terrible spend for the state, but if they spend the money on bunkers and shaping in the fairway, then let’s go!

Sorry bro, MrLsu said it, you reveled in it in the original thread

It’s between City Park and English Turn. LIV offering $10 million and it will definitely take place in March.

Regardless, the hosting site being the one that pays the “hosting fee” is completely arse backwards

From the pga tour, to liv, to local beer league scrambles the course receives the hosting fee

Jeff flipped the script

The state putting up a $5mm fee is so stupid. Totally agree with putting money into a course to make it host worthy, but the fee is crazy.

If I'm the PGA tour I would consider asking for the same fee or moving the Zurich out of spite. I'm sure Zurich wouldn't mind having it near their US headquarters in Chicago.

They’re asking for $ to bring Andrew Novak, Ben Griffin, JT Poston, the Hojgaard’s, & Sepp Straka to play in Avondale?

This is not going to happen. BTW, what kind of renovation can you do with $2M?

Apparently PGA gets $250k from Jefferson Parish for the Zurich.

quote:

The $7 million Louisiana is putting toward the LIV golf tournament comes from the state’s major events incentive fund, which provides public funding for large tourist attractions. In the past, it has been used to lure the Super Bowl, Essence Festival and NCAA Final Four for men’s basketball to Louisiana.

Other events getting money from the fund in the proposed state budget for the year that starts July 1 include the U.S. Bowling Congress Tournament ($5 million), an Ultimate Fighting Championship event ($1.5 million), the 2026 Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Championship ($750,000), the U.S. Gymnastics National Championships in New Orleans this August ($750,000), the Barksdale Defenders of Liberty Air Show ($500,000) and the State Fair of Louisiana in Shreveport ($100,000).

Another $250,000 in public funding from a Jefferson Parish tourism promotion account is also going to the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a decades-old PGA Tour event held each spring at the TPC Louisiana golf course in Avondale.

How do you argue that? It’s literally a fact

It literally a fact they aren’t paying 250k to the pga

You can go follow that money if you want. It’s laid to vendors, locals running the event, etc. They aren’t sending the money as a fee to the PGA

It’s also directly from. Jefferson Parish fund account for tourism, not from the state fund

Lay some sod, trim some trees, fix some cart paths, repaint the clubhouse.

In other words get it almost as nice as a mediocre public golf course in 49 other states

That league can kick rocks, and I hope the deal falls through. Keep that away from Louisiana.

Players LIV brings to LA in 2026:
Bryson, Rahm, Niemann, Cam Smith, Hatton, DJ, P Reed, Sergio, Phil, Bubba, Koepka (maybe)

Players Zurich brings: maybe a couple top 10 guys, Andrew Novak, Ben Griffin, Bobby McIntyre, Hojgaards, who knows
