How often should that be done and do you actually need a plumber or just be handy?

We have an exterior mounted tankless going on 14yrs and has never been flushed out.

Ideally, yearly for efficiency. Very simple to do. YouTube should have it.

My plumber said to do it yearly. He also said if you don't do it yearly he would suggest not doing it at all because flushing it after a few years of neglect can stir up more minerals than it gets out and give you headaches.

That is just one plumber, others may have different takes.

That's what I've heard. Flush yearly, but if you haven't flushed after 14 years, you might not want to.

I did mine after a year. A little messy, but not terrible. A product named "Haymaker" is what was recommended. I think next year I'll use white vinegar and rotate every other year with Haymaker.
