John 5 and Richie Kotzen Team Up for U.S. Tour Beginning in October

Will be at the House of Blues in New Orleans Oct. 27.

I never knew of John 5 as a solo artist, but apparently he has a solo album coming out. Kotzen is one of my favorites. Great guitarist and singer who is a prolific songwriter. He has like 30+ albums between his solo career, bands and side-projects.

Says John 5, “I’ve got a brand-new show and a whole bunch of songs we haven’t played in a long time plus all your favorites. I’m super excited! I love touring with other great guitarists like Richie Kotzen! It’s gonna be a Noodle-Palooza.”

Adds Kotzen, “I am very much looking forward to this USA tour, but what makes this even more exciting than last year‘s run of dates is that I’ll be out this time with my good friend John 5! I think this is going to be a great night not only for guitar fanatics but for general music lovers as well. I can’t wait to hit the stage this fall!”

I've listened to John 5 for years as a member of bands, but I haven't listened to him as a solo artist.

I've spent some time since this announcement, and the pairing doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

John 5's solo stuff is more along the lines of Buckethead, while Kotzen is more pure rock, blues, and even funk and soul.

John 5 is almost all instrumental, while Kotzen has great vocals.

They both are sponsored by Fender, both have signature Telecasters and both are among the best guitarists in rock, so perhaps that is the connection.

But musically, they are vastly different.

Kotzen was actually an instrumental shredder 35 years ago and put out several instrumental albums, but he doesn't play any of that stuff live.

Just seems like an odd pairing.
