It’s the first time in LSU baseball history it’s happened, so things like this actually don’t happen.

1st time for everything. Losing by 9 or 10..Who cares. It’s baseball and it was 1 game. Now let’s look forward to the weekend, this is what matters.

It's the first time it has happened when both coaches agreed to a rule that was not typically used until a few years ago. It's not the first time LSU lost a midweek game by 10 or more.
In 1991, Southeastern beat LSU 15-2 at Alex Box. I wonder if that would have been a mercy rule game. I cannot find a box score to check.
That same year, in addition to losing to Southeastern lost to McNeese, Northwestern, and Tulane at the Box and Tulane again at Tulane. They were also swept at Kentucky(finished 13-12 in SEC play that year). The other thing that stands out about 1991 is that it was LSU's first CWS championship.

Even though it’s only been a rule since 2023?

They could have played 20 innings and LSU was t going to win that game.
Forget about it. Move on.
