-Los Angeles Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings (for a couple of years)
-San Antonio Spurs vs. Los Angeles Lakers
-San Antonio Spurs vs. Dallas Mavericks

Portland and LA too - they were both at the top of the conference in the late '80s. 2000 was good too.

15 points

I wanted Portland to win bad so they would stall the impending Lakers dynasty. Oh well

Nice one.
I would say Utah has been the Rocket's number 1 rival the past few years.
Both teams play hard and it seems like the refs certainly let them play a little more physical than most games I've ever watched. Sloan is a top notch coach, but it seems like Utah plays a bit dirty.

Older
Rockets/Sonics

Recent
San Antonio/Phoenix?

The Sonics had the Rockets number for a few years ('87 and '93 were the big ones).

The Rockets were lucky that the Sonics choked in the first round both years they won the championship.

Lately none have been more intense than the Spurs-Suns, but it's been one sided come playoff time. But the biggest as far as implications goes seems to be Spurs-Lakers.

The Lakers hold the recent edge 4-2 with wins in 01', 02', 04', and 08' and the Spurs winning in 99' and 03'. Each year those winners have won the conference and won the NBA title with the exception of the most recent Laker wins. This is the longest, current running rivalry IMO.
