Friend just texted me that he went to the Milan for a beer and was told they lost the lease. Hope he was mistaken, they have been there a long time. Used to go watch the Cubs in the afternoon after class.

There’s a chance it stays open. I went by earlier and it’s a lot of uncertainty and they are certainly preparing for the worst but it’s not over. It’s some sort of lease dispute that can still be mitigated. TBD.

Most shocking thing about this story is that they were leasing that shithole structure.

New Orleans is aging out, experiencing a generational change over.
I think there will still be neighborhood joints but the times are changing. Younger folks just dont think going to the bar at noon and drinking 10 beers while watching a ball game is a good idea. Plus that up until recently was a pretty cheap activity now its not.
I have a friend that owns a place in the Bywater and over the last 3 years its been a steady drop of 6-7% of sales per year. Thats 20% in 3 years. For people that dont own their building (most) its tight right now.
Milan always seemed to have dedicated regulars but lots of those folks have moved on.
