My family and I will be vacationing there this summer. It will be our first time in the area. Any recommendations for restaurants and things to do in the area? We already plan to hike a bit. But would appreciate other recommendations. We will be situation between Blue Ridge and Mccaysville on the river.

We go to the area every year or so. A lot of things to do. Here’s a prior post. I’ll try to add something when I get back later if needed.

Do you stay in blue ridge or just outside when you go?

If you're there for 4th of July, I'll be shooting the big fireworks show on the lake. McCaysville usually shoots a show the Saturday before. It's beautiful up there. You have tubing/white water rafting nearby if that's your thing.

Went last year and was meh for my 2 boys ages 12 and 14 at the time.
I would go back just me and the wife though.

The Airbnb cabins we have rented were usually about 20 minutes or so out of Blue Ridge like the one linked.

Air BnB in the mountains. Great views. Do the train ride in Blue Ridge. Worth it in my opinion.

I don't know if it is still open but there used to be a Drive In Movie Theater that was fun for kids....
The Pink Pig just south of town is something most people will enjoy. It ain't bad. It used to be pretty average in my opinion but the demise of actual BBQ in Georgia in the last 20 years or so is real and has made some places which were tolerable in the 80's seem fantastic in 2025.
There is some seriously good fly fishing to be had in the area and there are some drift boats, both guided and self guided, available, at least a few years ago (can't imagine there aren't any now but there may not be).
All sorts of live music daily in the summertime in the area. Mostly bluegrass but you can also get some gospel music on Sundays and some 70s and 80s rock and country during the week. Lots of this in parks and open air stages...a lot of fun if you like that sort of thing. It is North Georgia though so drinking may not be allowed.
McCaysville GA / Copperhill Tennessee is interesting.
Tubing and rafting in the area is fun and popular....can be pretty mild to pretty damned terrifying depending on location.
Pontoon boat rentals at Blue Ridge and Lake Nottely. Both lakes have some pretty good fishing. Both are ABSOLUTELY gorgeous.
Not to far from both Dahlonega (first gold rush in North America) and Helen (Bavarian village in North Georgia). Both are good day trips and Helen is pretty fun. Dahlonega is also but its more of an actual town where Helen is almost like a theme park. Dawsonville is close to Dahlonega and is the birthplace of NASCAR if y'all are into that sort of thing. Dawsonville is also called the Moonshine Capital of the World but there are probably hundreds of places similarly named in the south.
Its a great area. Depending on when you are there the weather will be great compared to the rest of the south. Nights can get pretty cool even in July and August....not cold but very nice, even camp fire nice. It is liable to rain a little everyday...an area just east of Blueridge and north of Clayton is considered one of the rainiest places on the planet. There is a LOT to do in the area and a lot of opportunity to do nothing at all and still have a big old time.....

It's still there I was up there last summer and it's a pretty unique experience if you've never been to one
