... Only his name is Dirk Pitt and Tom Clancy clearly took, let's say, "inspiration" from Clive Kussler.

Also no coincidence that it feels like half the Cast of Raise the Titanic were also in Hunt For Red October and Patriot Games.

The Dirk Pitt character in the Clive Cussler novels and film is clearly a partial inspiration for the Jack Ryan character that Clancy later created. He just mixed him with James Bond.

I’m going to have to believe you on that I guess. I did post about the Neil Gaiman book that looks strikingly similar to Harry Potter. But came out years before JK wrote her book. Young white English school boy, wears glasses, has a pet owl… The Books of Magic.

Where are you getting any James Bond influence. It’s been quite a few years since I read the books but I don’t recall any Nond similarities.

There isn't any really. There isn't any similarity with Dirk Pitt either.

Jack Ryan rarely fights anyone in any of the books he's in, and is mostly a behind the scenes guy/runs the show. Dirk Pitt on the other hand is basically the archaeologist version of James Bond. Dirk Pitt has more in common with John Clark from the Clancy books than he does Ryan.

Games/movies like Laura Croft and Uncharted are more in the vein of Dirk Pitt than Clancy was. About the only real similarities are that both had a bunch of money grab supposedly co-written book series at the end of their careers (or after his death in Clancy's case)
