It was anything but a "perfect meeting" the first 40 minutes.
It was Trump constantly reiterating he wants peace and an end to hostilites.
Meanwhile Zelensky constantly made his feelings known that a ceasefire isn't an option without guarantees and continued military support both now and in the future. "the US needs to do xyz, Putin is a terrorist and always lies, you can't reason with him, diplomacy won't work," etc.
After 40 minutes of this, Vance had had enough.
Then Zelensky made his stupid "you're safe behind your ocean now, but just wait" comment and that set Trump off.

That really was a ridiculously stupid comment. I can't wrap my head around any logical reason he would revert to that. Did he really think that some kind of ominous warning about what would happen if the US didn't do what he wants was going to move the needle with someone like Trump?
It's a coercion tactic, and like Trump or not there isn't a human being on the planet that is going to coerce Trump into doing anything, especially doing it in a public forum.
