colonel, yama is by far the best, I agree. And sushi is only as good as the freshness of the fish, the consistency of the rice, and the creativity and talent of the sushi chef. Yama has this in spades. For those that haven't been, go and sit at the bar.
it's not close. people who enjoy tokyo cafe and ichiban are the same ones who think a california and shrimp tempura roll qualify them to talk about sushi. I've been to tokyo cafe and it was awful. The fish was not fresh. The rice was abysmal. Ditto for Ichiban and the Waka house. Ichiban dumps eel sauce and fried tempura batter over everything. Tsunami is absolute shite. Koto hasn't been good in a decade.
Says our friend just moved here from japan. "Yama is the only thing close to a real sushi restaurant in the city."
David at Wahada is also very good, but the others at wahada aren't as strong. Also, Tom at Kamado's on Sherwood.

I agree on the Wahada assessment..one of those guys in back is much much better than the rest.

Right. I a little bit inside every time I hear someone rave about a sushi restaurant and then tell me how great their crunchy roll is.
