After Cousins awful season, was it a bad decision for the Falcons to draft Penix?

A lot of people thought it was a bad decision when the falcons took Penix for their first draft pick. It might have been a blessing in disguise. Sure, Atlanta could have gotten an offensive weapon for Cousins, but now they might have their franchise QB!!
Cousins will make 90 million for his 14 games played. He is about to get cut to save the falcons 10 million in bonuses

No.
It was just the way they went about it.
Blank is a terrible owner.

If penix does good it’s good. If he does bad it’s bad.

Doing BOTH was a bad decision. Either one is fine on their own. If you go with Cousins, draft a weapon for him with that high pick. If you draft Penix, spend money to surround him with better players. They did neither.

Should’ve just drafted Penix.

Exactly this. Drafting Penix wasn't a bad decision, but signing Cousins and THEN drafting him was.

People have terrible comprehension skills
The conversation when Pennix was drafted was not about Pennix’s talent or the idea that the falcons would take a QB of the future or that it was dumb in a vacuum to take Pennix. Most of this board were big fans of Pennix as a player in that draft.
It’s making that decision to draft him AFTER the Kirk cousins signing, which everyone rightfully questions because it for one shows a lack of direction, and for two is guaranteed a bad outcome for the falcons. This was outlined as the “best case scenario” that you could hope for and in this best case we are living in the falcons just lit 90 million dollars on fire along with the ability to build around a rookie QB deal
And the thing you are really hiding here…Pennix could still suck! Most young QBs do.
Falcons took what is already a long odds bet (drafting a QB) - they decided to not only do that, but to pay more for the right to do so. Like if I sat down at the blackjack table and asked if they could decrease the blackjack split to let the house have better odds

No, it was a bad idea to give Cousins 85 million when he wasn’t fully recovered. He has had problems handing the ball off, no play action, statue in the pocket

The Saints took Cousins' soul on 11/10.

This is on Kirk. He could have EASILY said "Folks, I love the offer, but I don't think my body can handle a few more seasons of NFL football"

Because it’s his job to turn down money

“Boss man, I appreciate the raise offer, but given we came short of our yearly revenue goals, I must respectfully decline and would request a deduction in my pay until we right the ship”

No but it was obviously a bad decision to sign Cousins.

Paying cousins 90 million fresh off an Achilles was the bad decision. If Penix isn’t the answer some heads need to roll

Nothing will change until Blank sells the team.
