Portal Players

If 9-3 gets in the playoffs then that's fine. Looking at the massive parity in the sport right now, it's probably realistic to think 3 loss teams could easily slide in next year.

Well probably not just me cause the 12 team playoff is keeping a lot of the good players out of Portal for now.

But maybe it will get better.

Alot of other school are going through the exact same issue.

I love our sophmore and freshman classes and our QB. But gah damn our senior and junior classes are terrible.

There is no such thing as a senior class anymore. The only reason Sage Ryan was still here this year is because we had nobody else and Kelly wanted to rely on guys that were establlished here than get a shite ton of portal kids again. However he now realizes everything is different from just last year.

As far as a junior class, many kids leave within 2 years of ANY college if they aren't starting or getting significant snaps, or there is a younger and more talented guy breathing down their necks. Even Louisiana guys leave after 1-2 years. I expect no less than 5 kids from the freshman class leave after 2025. That's just how it is now. Getting rid of the transfer rule along with crazy levels of ever increasing NIL money was the dumbest thing imaginable. There are zero guardrails now. I don’t know how many coaches will continue to deal with the turnover.

Also, you are pretty fricking stupid painting every team in the playoffs with a broad brush. Can yall please stay on the rant and leave the recruiting board to grown ups?

I've also noticed that none of the playoff teams have many players in the portal, and there are practically no players with transfer ratings of over 90 from all of the schools combined, yet we know they probably have more of those than most schools. I think being in the playoffs confers an advantage to those teams retaining their players, because the players want to play in the playoffs, or at least be there for the games, while many players don't care about bowl games. The portal will close on 28 DEC, so any teams that make it to the quarterfinals on 31 DEC will have the biggest advantage. They may lose some players in the Spring portal, but that is a much smaller window, and most teams will have filled their needs already, so that will dissuade a lot of their players from testing the portal. I think the portal windows should be reversed such that the Spring becomes the big transfer period. I think the December window should only be 10 days. The main signing period should be 30 days in the Spring off-season after final exams and especially after bowl games are completed. My suggestion for the early window is 5-15 DEC, since the high school national signing day is 4 DEC, the first bowl game is 14 DEC, and the national championship is on 20 JAN. I think the Spring signing period should be all of May. The short early signing period would allow most kids to get it over with quickly, and then focus on school. It would probably also result in most kids delaying their announcements until the main period, which would result in most players again playing in the bowls. Also, having the main period after they finish their academic years would be more harmonious with college schedules, and less disruptive to the players. Even the playoff teams may like this, because while they may have an advantage retaining players, they may have a disadvantage attracting them while preparing for the playoffs.
