Was watching a gun auction the other day that had a pistol that was custom made for one of the Expendable movies with Sylvester Stallone. Kimber made 10 of the guns. The serial number range for those pistols was KEX 001 to KEX 010.
Most were converted by ISS for blank use only and a few were left unaltered for actor live fire training. This one was serial number 10 and was unaltered. Kimber was contacted about building pistols for the movie, and Kimber pistol product manager Winslow Potter and movie propmaster Kent Johnson speced out the gun to be built. I expected that gun to go pretty high but it actually only sold for $3465.

That’s not bad considering the provenance

Kimber's are renowned for quality?

They used to be. Before the rust issues.

I have the tle ii custom. It has one little annoying rust dot on the slide.

Eventually I'll have someone coat it.

Wonder if that has improved since they moved to Troy, Al?

Always thought he carried a compact version and not a fullsize.

Interesting pistol.

Kimber is known for using a lot of MIM (metal injection molding) parts on the intervals. Those are not nearly as good as machined parts and won’t hold up as well with a lot of use. Trigger jobs won’t stay nice, etc. If you use it very little, like most people, and use 45 ball ammo, it will probably be fine. If you plan to shoot it a lot, buy a cheap 1911 and have a gunsmith replace the internals. You will have just as good a gun, for way less money. If you just want a cool gun to show your buddies, go for it.

Their R7 Mako is highly reliable and their Carbon is getting a lot of praise. Of course, those aren’t 1911’s

I bought a Kimber Ultra Raptor II years ago and I’ve never had a problem with it. Change out the mags and break her in and you’re ready to go
