Female lab turns one in March 2025 so I’d like to send her off to retriever training before then. Any suggestions on reasonably priced trainers? Don’t want to break the bank.. catholic school tuition is a killer lol

I have learned that dog training is a lot like daycare for your kid. You get what you pay for 9/10. I woukd give Goldsby retrievers a call over by Amite. Daniel
Is a good dude and will take care of your dog while he has it.

Have a dog from Rodrigues and trained by Aces. Had a few hiccups up front (gun shy) but had 2 great seasons for duck, and has been a jam up tracking dog over the years. Only issue I had with Aces training is the “British” approach. He did not do force fetch and the opinion was their natural instincts take over and will do it on their own. Well mine has a little dumb in him and that instinct never took over.

Sent a couple dogs to Daniel Goldsby and he’s exceeded expectations with all of them.

Dan is a solid dude and a great dog trainer. Really loves working with dogs and like lsufan said, you don’t have to worry about him treating your dog badly. Some trainers try to just pressure dogs through things to meet time constraints and you absolutely don’t want that for your dog.

Good dog trainers are hard to find. Bad ones are easy to find. Some more to check out:

Chuck McCall in Central (ChuMac Kennels)
Steve Riggins near Slaughter (Bear Creek on the Bayou)
Tyler Davis in Abita (NP Retrievers)

Cant remember his name. But he is from around new ibera, got my black lab from him. This is the best dog ive ever had. Guy was amazing to work with during the process. He trains for field trials and/or duck dogs. I gave $3000 dor my dog that was (started) 4 years ago. And by started, this dude was already introduced to hand signals and all. Simply amazing. Again cant rem his name, but here is his number 3375196307
