Any recommendations? Can I salvage a good time or should we skip it? Thanks in advance

It depends on your expectations, if your looking for a low key evening, maybe grabbing a bite along the river, pop in a few shops and check out the Christmas decorations at this time of year, then your experience will be just fine. There is a fun Irish pub along the river, maybe hop into the river center mall for some shopping etc. Shouldn't be too crowded mid week, plus the cooler weather may keep some folks away.
I 2nd eating at Boudros. Some of the best food in the city.

I remember when they didnt have the netting on the trees along the river walk and the pigeons and starlings would shite all over people. It was a fun game at age 8.
Have a good time. walk to Esquire Tavern
did you go to the Pearl? We enjoy a margarita crawl there and end at the Hotel Emma Bar.

Menger Hotel bar.
The hotel is allegedly haunted and Teddy Roosevelt recruited Rough Riders there back in the day. The bar was in a different location in the hotel, but you still have to sip a whiskey there in honor of Teddy.
