Hey all, 4 adults and a 3 year old going on a Disney cruise in January.

Arriving at MCO about 2:30 pm and shipping out the next day from Port Canaveral.

What’s the best method of transportation here? And is it better to stay in Orlando the night before or get on to the port?

Arrive at MCO, stay at the Hyatt at the airport. Call Disney Cruise and book their bus to Port Canaveral. They'll even come to your room at the Hyatt, get your luggage and deliver it directly to your stateroom on the boat.

Rent from budget, pick up at MCO, drop off near the terminal, they’ll bring you to the cruise port.

Easiest and best method by far

I always book limo service when sailing out of PC.

There are several. Check Trip Advisor for reviews.

We are doing Disney cruise Mardi Gras. Either going to stay at Disney resort night before or Hyatt airport and use Disney transportation so bags will be dropped off at room. I Don’t want to deal with renting car and luggage.

Staying at the MCO Hyatt is convenient but boring so ultimately Id say it depends on when your flight arrives. We normally opt to stay at or near one of the Disney or Universal resorts and spend an evening doing resort activities, Disney Springs, City Walk, etc but that adds extra time to your PC commute. I don't know what sailing your on so I couldn't check your exact dates but here is a pricing example on Budget picking up a SUV on Sunday and dropping it off right next to the cruise terminal on Monday. You can do the same thing getting back to MCO.

As a comparison, the shuttle bus from MCO is $45 per person, each way.

A car rental gives you alot more flexibility, freedom and saves money.

We go stay on property at Disney. Go eat a meal and shop at Disney springs. Take the Disney transportation from hotel to port. Can take the same to the airport after.

THIS.

May not be the "cheapest" method but is definitely the easiest and most convenient.

Not sure if they do this for non-airport drop offs, but I booked a trip through Expedia and was able to add on a rental car for next to nothing. I think it was around $10 a day to upgrade to a mid-size SUV. An economy car would have been free. Wife picked it up and dropped it off at the Raleigh airport, so maybe it is a local thing only, but worth looking into when booking flights.
