Heading down to our camp for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately my outboard is still down. This is usually my favorite time to fish.

That said- anybody done any crabbing or beach fishing down south ? Trying to find somewhere to get kids onto something since boats down. They love crabbing.

I know rivers up high and I'd guess we'd need to go pretty far south like west cove launch for crabs maybe.

I'll add- we do have kayaks at the camp. But never fished big lake by kayak before. And only places I ever fish that I think would be convenient by kayak is salt barrier and near civic center or prien.

Fished the salt barrier last week. Nothing, water was high and dirty. Ran down to the Ellender bridge and nothing there either. Seems all the fresh water put a stop on the bite.

My son and a buddy tore the trout up in Prien this past saturday. Chasing birds.

Nice!

That's normally my go to this time of year.

Unless I find a deal on a used outboard in the next week we'll be land-based though.

Also- I'm a teacher/coach so guides are way above the means.

But if anybody had room for me and my oldest-(10yrold) around Thanksgiving break on a boat I'd fill the boat and truck with gas, buy drinks, and bring breakfast and clean fish.

Crabbing down at the west cove launch today and started off great. Got 2 dozen solid keepers now. Tons of throwbacks.

Picked up another 70 Johnson powerhead, got it swapped. But still fighting setup bugs.

Took the kayaks under 210 this afternoon. Surprisingly caught 10 solid specks. Good afternoon with the kids!

Where generally is the 210 bridge where you caught your specks in kayaks relative to BR ? Travel time from BR ?

That would be ~2 hours from Baton Rouge, he's talking about fishing the Prien Lake area.

Pack & Paddle put out a pretty good little instructional video about fishing Prien a few years back, linked below.
