Unless Eric Prince has already said “No” why is he not the obvious choice considering the popularity of Bongino’s podcast. I know Bongino said he’d do it if asked and his only advantage is he was once an agent. Is that advantage that important.

He has a great deal of pride in being a former agent, and I'm sure he would love to overhaul it.

Not sure who will be chosen but I could see the Trump team consulting with Dan at least. He has many insiders in the SS now.

Can't go wrong either way, honestly. That agency must be overhauled by a capable outsider. Honestly it needs to be first on the agenda given what has already happened on their watch.

In the mean time, I hope and suspect that DJT also has some version of a private security detail (not SS) given all the question marks around that agency.

Not exactly sure how that's relevant when making a choice for or not for SS director.

"What do you guys think about Bongino? I'm thinking of appointing him."

"Well, he's got a really popular podcast."

"Well, in that case, let's pick someone else."

Somehow, I don't think they'd be too concerned with the popularity of his podcast.

My preference, from a pure policy standpoint, would be to decouple all the counterfeiting, investigative (except for their core protective function) and all that and send that either to a specialized component of treasury, the FBI or other federal LE, and bring USSS directly under the WH Chief of Staff and make it a Presidential/VIP protection agency only. Rename it the United States Protective Service.

There is no reason the chief aide to the President shouldn't be directly over the USSS director and obviate the need to go through the DHS Secretary (or, previously, the Secretary of the Treasury).

My point was - can Bongino do more good with his podcast than he could do serving in the SS? Especially if there was someone else equally qualified to do the job.

Was wondering about the temperament of each. Bongiino is a firebrand that’s used to yelling a lot on his podcast. Prince seems to be more cool and calculated in what and how he says something.

I’d be happy with either one.
