Thought about that, but not real sure what to look for. I’d like one 3-4 years old and not sure I want a Matthews or Hoyt yet

Brand really doesnt matter these days to be honest. Just personal pref. They all are light, and sling an arrow faster than you need. Look for a good deal after the season

Go to an archery shop and shoot some. See what you like.

If you can find what you want on eBay, you can save a decent amount of money.

I take it your looking for a compound bow. Budget is going to be your driver. Just remember, you bought the bow, but you still need arrows, broad heads, quiver (if one doesn’t come with bow), sight (they can get expensive), release…… You can look for deals on Ready To Hunt packages. Choose a poundage suitable for you. Choose the correct draw length. Most compounds are tunable and can be tailored to you.
A good pro shop like Cabelas has a lot of bows and a shooting range onsite.
Good luck and welcome to Archery……..

All the flagship bows are awesome these days.

It’s all a function of how much u want to spend.

Agree on above comment. Arrows, sights, etc all add up and $$& and might make more of a difference in some cases than the bow itself.

If you can afford it and are in it for the long haul, I would get a new flagship bow , set it up right , buy once and cry once. They can last a long time.

If you’re not sure if you want to do that for any reason, I would buy a used bow from the last few years that’s easily adjustable without a press. I believe most of the elite’s and bowtechs and maybe some others fall into this category. This way you can get a used bow and still relatively easily and cheaply get it to fit you well.

Check ebay and archerytalk classfieds for a Mathews Switchback xt. Its an older solocam, so its not a speed bow. Its straight out quiet, smooth draw cycle, and one of the best bows mathews ever built.

Can usually find them selling between $350 -$600 with accessories.

You can’t go wrong with either of the Mathews or Hoyt flagship bows.

I pulled the trigger on a RX8 Ultra and love it. But I will also shoot it for a decade so I didn’t mind spending the money.

Go to a bow shop and shoot a few different brands. One will feel better for you than the others. That will increase your shooting confidence. There are really no "bad" bows anymore. Also, most bow shops will keep used bows on consignment for sale.

Find a bow shop or someone you know to help you, getting fitted right is a big key to being consistent.

Draw length, anchor point etc etc will help you perform better in the field.
