The sheriff’s office said in the early morning hours of Oct. 12, a bank ATM in LaPlace was damaged by individuals who tried to get access to the internal vault, to steal cash. The suspects used heavy construction tools such as crow bars and a heavy-duty cutting saw, to break into the machine. Cobb’s attempts to get money from the ATM were not successful, authorities said.

Using crime cameras and after investigating further, the St. John Sheriff’s Office was able to identify a lookout vehicle involved in the Oct. 12 incident.

Detectives worked with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office (Albany) and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s office, to identify the suspects and vehicle involved.

The identification of the lookout vehicle’s owner led detectives to 37-year-old Daniela Lucas, who is currently in custody for several similar incidents, including the incident from St. John Parish. Lucas was arrested and booked Oct. 23 with simple burglary (felony).

Upon further investigation, Alfred Cobb was identified as the main suspect who is believed to be the orchestrator of the ATM burglaries which occurred in St. John the Baptist Parish and other surrounding areas.

Cobb currently has several outstanding arrest warrants in surrounding parishes because of his actions and the investigations of the respective agencies.
