DA called for “the most cowardly punt in the NFL since 1999”

Forgive me if this has been discussed—I stayed off the board yesterday—but according to an article Jacob Hester just cited, that 4th and 1 punt from the Charger’s 47(?), by the analytics, was the worst decision to not go for it based on risk/reward since 1999.

I mean, it wouldn’t have mattered, but you’d lost 5 straight, your job is on the line, and you uber gay in close game (at the time) on the road? If you’re gonna go out, go out with your dick out, not trying to just lose by less points.

This is the same morning show today where Tbob said "Making the playoffs doesn't matter for us this season" 20 minutes before regarding LSU.

Who gives a shite what 104.5 has to say about Louisiana sports.

A little bit of hyperbole there. It was the Saints 2nd drive of the game. They absolutely should have gone for it, but to say from a risk/reward it was the worst in 25 years is asinine.

It went right along with their super conservative theme from yesterday.

Let's play field position and hang around until the fourth quarter and then maybe we'll have a chance.

But I guess that punt returner didn't get the entire memo seeing how he fielded a few punts inside the 5-yard line like a dumbass

This was not anybody’s opinion. It was based solely on analytics. Maybe the opinion of whoever wrote the computer program and how they decided to weigh things, but this was based on an objective number, not any analyst’s opinion.

ETA—“the most cowardly punt…” title was not anything the radio hosts were opining on, it was a direct quote/headline from the article they were citing which was based on whatever algorithm they were using.

I’ve been avoiding this site, but has our dumb arse punt returner been called out for fielding those punts inside the 5-10?

They probably would have called a run up the middle anyway, and that doesn't seem to work lately at all.
Face it guys, we just have a bad team right now! A combination of several things contribute to this lousy record. Age of key players, incompetence of come coaches, tired old results from Mickey Loomis, and injuries.

Wut? What changed after yesterday?

If getting blown out at home two games in a row to make it a 5 game skid with one of those games being by a rookie qb didn't cost DA his job, nothing will.

I think the general consensus changed about 10 years ago from "let it go inside the 10" to "let it go inside the 5."
