I'm thinking about signing up for it next year. There is the regular amateur tour and the senior tour for those 50 and above. Looks like the only difference is that there is a North and South region for the regular tour and just one region for the Senior and the length is a tad shorter for the Senior division. I'm 52 and could play in either one.

For those that play, is it fun and what's your opinion of how it's ran as far as tournament days, courses and rules?

Curious about this as well. Didn't know any of it in North LA.

Looks like they play from Alexandria, Kosati Pines, Tomahaka on up to Bossier, Stonebridge along with Black Bear in the Monroe area. Several at Oak wing and Links on the Bayou, They also played one at Mystic Creek which if you haven't been there, it's awesome and very hard, they call it little Augusta.

I have several friends that play on the tour. They absolutely love it, they quit playing regular club tournaments just to play in this. Highly recommend, only reason I don’t play is I work every other weekend.

Awesome. I'm in Bossier but I'd travel for a few of them. Kosati Pines might be a stretch but I have wanted to try that course. I'll have to look into it, glad you posted this.

It is definitely hard Very pretty out there. The Little Augusta nicknamed course is actually Texarkana Country Club. It's where Byron Nelson used to be the club pro and he would practice there before The Masters. I'm a member out there, it's a pretty fitting nickname, it's the closest I'll ever come to playing Augusta.

Highly recommend. I played in it for 11 years. It’s real golf…right by the book. There is a season long points race as well. Nationals are in Hilton Head at the end of the season.

Played it for years. Won my class one year. The best part is making the LAVA Cup team. You head to Hilton Head and play the Virginia tour in a Ryder Cup style competition 3 rounds. Best ball, 2 man scramble, and singles. Only reason I stopped was due to coaching and LAVA is in August/September usually.

Does everyone have to walk or do they use carts?

Carts. The cringiest thing was some of the old guys have handicap flags. So they pull up literally a foot from the green. It ALWAYS lead to a Marshall telling them they couldn’t do it and the old man telling them to kick rocks.

From what I understand this is the last year of doing the Hilton head trip.

The national championship will continue in Hilton Head. It will be at least a few more years before they look into it. But doubt it changes somewhere else. They are under contract with the town and the courses.

The lava cup was discontinued for the Louisiana North tour but the tourney is still on. The south tour plays the Heritage cup vs Michigan.

I was there this year and first I heard of that. That would be crazy. I wasn’t at the director meeting so I don’t know. Was told at least two more from one director

I play on it and know the director very well as she and her husband play in my normal game at Stonebridge. Great people! It’s a great tour and a ton of fun - if you like meaningless competition! They handicap it well, and snuff out sandbaggers with precision. The schedule for next year was just released last Saturday.

As far as the LAVA Cup goes, it is no more. Something to do with the national tour director making them basically cancel it because it conflicted with the national championship. However, we have a new Ryder cup type competition with the Dallas tour called the Southern Showdown. It’s a home and home type deal. This year it was held at Huntington in Shreveport and our tour won. Next year it will be held at Squaw Valley outside of Dallas.

Just saw they posted the schedule for Louisiana North Tour.

Season kicks off with a major at Stonebridge March 1-2. Guess I'm going to give it a go this year. Don't want to sandbag but man if my handicap was 1 point higher I could be in the A flight instead of the back end of the championship flight

Louisiana South is a good group and the Mississippi Tour plays better courses than any of the Louisiana tours..you can join any chapter and play all over the country

Played at Dogwoods and it was brutal. Any ball in the woods played OB. Think of playing Calvert Crossing with those rules. Same thing.

Played the 2 day at Tunica National and the Links course. Both were very nice at the time I played. Idk if I’d say they’re better than anything in Louisiana. Calvert > Dogwoods imo.
