Wasn’t a huge fan of, but was lucky to have seen him perform at Jazz fest in the blues tent back in 2009…just amazing!

And it wasn't just the picking. His vocal phrasing and tone inflection to walk the perfect line between Blues and Appalachian was incredible.
He made you feel those songs.

I saw him at a small theater in Springfield, MO around 2000 -2001. He was in his 80s but still put on a great show. I was impressed with his picking considering his age. He still had it.

My dumbass lived in Boone for 4 years while at App State and not once did I go to Merlfest or ever see Doc.

Instead, each year I went to the GGO golf tournament in Greensboro to watch B pro golfers play.

Went for about a dozen years straight and the only regret was breaking that string.

BTW: you could trade up for better seating and so year by year get better seating.
