CCL greens

May have missed the discussion on here but anyone know what the heck happened at CCL? Greens are worse than almost anything I’ve ever seen in places. Any idea on how long it takes to recover from something like that?

Sad to imagine paying $1,000+ a month to join a club like that and have greens that look like Webb’s. Hope they get it figured out soon. It really is the prettiest course in the BR area in terms of layout and structure. BRCC and UClub’s conditions put it to shame though.

Didn’t take any but imagine fifty percent of a green covered with sod that isn’t taking and is impossible to play on. That’s almost every green except one and eighteen. Pretty odd that they wound up keeping the ones you can see from the clubhouse in perfect shape but basically every other green has gone to hell.

They fired a grounds keeper that was doing a decent job, because the" members" didn't get along with him
Couldn't find anyone to take the job, finally found a guy from SC or NC can't remember, needless to say he doesn't know when he's doing
Punch and sand greens 2-3 weeks ago, 2 late in the season, the verticut/dethached the fairways too deep ....... Gonna be next year before they get it back, grass doesn't have time to recover this year. Stupid stupid decision
CCL is laughing stock of golf superintendents at the moment, no one wants that job

How did you get on? Are you a member?

We have a company membership there. I rarely play there and hadn’t been in a month or so until last Friday.

Bummer to hear about the CCL greens. Beautiful course.
Gimma a call anytime and I'll pull some strings to get us on at the currently pristine Webble Beach

I played yesteday....WORST GREENS in the state. I kid you not. Webb has better greens....I would even wager LSU has better greens.
It will take a full year to get these back to the level of play CCL members are used to.
I do think the problem started prior to the new greenskeeper. In the Spring you would go to fix a ball mark and there was just no root system...you would just be turning over sand. Problem sumploy exploded when the summer heat kicked in....
Members are pulling out of Club Tournaments because they simply do not want to pay extra to be playing those conditions.

They are definitely in bad shape for CCL but they are not Webb bad and >50% still roll well.
The information I received was basically perfect storm. They had a worm parasite which wasn’t treated correctly all at the same time they lost the superintendent and his second in charge. Then you got a new person walks in with no clue what has been done and has to start guessing to get things back going.
The greens also haven’t been redone in probably 20 yrs. That takes a toll.
That being said, it will be next May before they are back to CCL expectations.
Also of note, the gated cart system is probably the dumbest shite I have seen in a long time.

What is the gated cart system?

There are two posts at the cart path that must be driven between to enter and exit fairways on each hole. Basically forces the 90* rule through the rough

Thanks. They had that last time I played there. I think they were trying to let some hard pan areas grow out and protect some of the rough where balls generally land.

It is very hard for people to imagine Louisiana weather. People think it is like Florida or the Bahamas and grass will be so easy to grow.
We have a different weather environment every week many times. Drought, Flood, Frozen, Perfect, Hot as hell, Random Hailstorm, Everyday afternoon showers, Ice Storm, Repeat.

I didn't mind the gated cart system. Course is beautiful.

My issue with it is once through the gate people are 100% riding up and down the fairway. There isn’t a 90 degree or even back to the rough then fairway process.
And they gated area become extremely worn and destroyed.
It wasn’t an inconvenience but it didn’t make sense to me if trying to limit damage
