IBS, Severe OSA, and turning over a new leaf

I'm a 50 yr old guy that's suffered with IBS for about 15-20 years now. Moving into a nice, brand new, strict apartment complex on Nov 1st. I say that, because the place keeps the riff raff out thru its leasing restrictions. I'm a bit shy when it comes to working out, since I'm in terrible physical condition. So, it's relatively impressive fitness room might allow me as much privacy as one could expect. I find myself WANTING some exercise for the first time in forever.
I was always a small guy from birth till about 40. Best shape of my life at age 35, carrying it at only 149 lbs, due to the job I held at the time. Now, I'm an unsustainable 5'5" 220 lbs. Yikes. I probably do wear it better than most and have been told I "get around good for my condition", which tells me that others see me as someone who needs to get my fricking act together.
As stated above, I suffer from IBS and also Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The latter was diagnosed about 6 years ago and actually appears to be from a genetically narrow airway in my throat and not necessarily related to my weight, tho its DEFINITELY not helping. My doctor said it was one of the worst test results he'd seen.
So, this is the first time I will have been living on my own in quite a while. I'm hoping this will allow me the opportunity to cut down on "social eating". I will be residing only a short 3-5 min drive from work, so excited to be able to come home at lunch to try eating something healthier than the normal EVERY DAY drive-thru. Truly sick of eating out, but many times it's either that or starve for 12 hours. Really need to shrink my stomach, so I can go longer without getting hangry.
Anyway, I'm a pretty solid cook for the things that I do like. Just don't do it often the past few years, but hoping that changes with the new living quarters. That's usually chicken, pork, pinto beans, steak, hamburger meat and even salad. I do NOT eat eggs, unless it's baked in a bread or cake. Lol. So, that's out. Simply find eggs disgusting. Love fruit and vegetables.
Not totally sure where I was going with this thread, except to just have some people to share things with.
I think my first short-term goal is simply to get below 210 (maybe been a year since) and then below 200 lbs (been several years).
Thoughts? I don't mind tough love, just appreciate it being constructive. Thanks for reading.

If I were you, I would pick 1 habit and focus on that as a lifestyle change for the next 3-4 months. Just knock out that one thing and your day is a win.
I’d pick either walking or intermittent fasting (I’d pick walking).
With walking, get a baseline of how many steps you take today and shoot for 2k more. Slowly increase until you’re getting 10-12k every day.
Once the daily 10-12k steps is a habit, move onto a small diet change (intermittent fasting, giving up soda, giving up alcohol, etc). Just pick one.
If you try to flip everything at once (diet, working out, other habits), you’re going to likely make it a few days and then give up.
Instead, play the long game and stack habits that you can hold the rest of your life.

I have ibs. It can get debilitating. I recently started a probiotic that helps.

Can't disagree with any of that.
I rarely ever drink and never to excess. Might have 1-2 beers, total, per month. Never more than one at a time.
I don't smoke, vape, or do any other drugs. I also never drink coffee or tea.
My liquid intake consists of 90% water and probably 4-5 sodas a week. I'd love to completely kick soda/caffeine. Done that in the past, but it's an addiction that always seems to come back. I think it's the effervescence of that first swig. Find myself not really enjoying it after those first couple of swallows. Rarely drink any fruit juice. Might have 1 orange juice a month.
I do wear an Oura fitness ring and avg about 9,000 steps on work days, which is 4-6 times a week, as I have a rotating schedule.

With IBS, soluble fiber seems to help. I have had it for many years. I try to eat lean protein and avoid processed carbs. Starting an exercise program is great. I hope you can find a workout routine that you enjoy and that works you.

Glad you want to get control of your situation but it does add up. You don’t drink smoke or do drugs. Eating a fast food meal once a day doesn’t put 70 pounds on in 5yrs. You have to be simply overeating or other medical condition beyond ibs. In all seriousness see about ozempic to kick start the lost and fast. 5’5” 220 is extremely overweight especially considering you don’t work out. In the meantime start walking as much as possible and stick to the basic pushups, sit-ups, body weight squats.

I think it's a simple solution to a simple problem that's difficult for many, including myself, to correct.
I just made sure to note the 2 conditions I've been diagnosed with, one of which is directly related to my diet (IBS).

If you are taking 9k steps per day, don't drink alcohol, and drink only a few sodas per week and you are still 70 pounds above your target, then your diet must drastically be off.
What do you eat each day?
Based on the info provided, I would look into Intermittent Fasting as a way to reduce overall calories.

It’s definitely possible. You just have to stick with it. I was much bigger than you and as of today I’m down 75 lbs from a diet/lifestyle change and working out 4 times a week. I still want to lose 85 more to reach my final goal. I’m just eating really clean, drinking water only, stopped drinking alcohol and I eat pretty much the same few things every day with an occasional cheat meal. I have zero cravings for unhealthy shite and most of the time I just skip the cheat meal.

This is a 70 lb gain over 15 years. From age 35 to 50.

Start tracking what you eat and weighing your food to make sure you’re using appropriate portions. It’ll make all of the difference.

I eat plain Greek yogurt with blueberries and a little honey for breakfast, then for lunch and dinner I basically rotate steak, fish or chicken, broccoli, avocado, cottage cheese, eggs, salad. You can do any veggies you want but I normally stick to what I have available.

I need to really sit down and write out a list of ingredients that I like and are healthy. Then mix and match to come up with a meal rotation to avoid burnout.
