Heading up there today to see the Northern lights, hopefully!
I would like to catch a grayling if possible.
Does anyone have a guide recommendation?
TIA

I spent a couple weeks north of Fairbanks on the Prudhoe Bay haul road expecting to catch a Grayling from one of the many stream and small lakes. Never did figure out the system. A guide would be critical for an out sider

Catch up with “Roger the Shrubber” on this board. He is in the tourism industry and pretty much knows everything about Alaska

I grew up in Fairbanks. It’s pretty late in the salmon run season. Maybe Birch Lake will work for stocked fish. What are you looking for?

Not sure of any guides but Ballaine Rd right before Goldsteam creek is a good place to see the lights.
Googling for a guide on the Chena River should come up with a few hits and would be the easiest from Fairbanks.

Definitely get a guide, my dad used to live in Fairbanks. He was not a great fisherman, while I was already an avid angler that fished a few times every week but I was 12. We tried to catch some in streams around mt McKinney now Denali. Caught like 2.
Alaska is almost twice the size of Texas, you can drive for 4-5 hours and not see another car, or at least you could back then.
Definitely get a guide. They aren’t hard to catch just hard to find

Not to mess you up but for my birthday I did a pike trip out of Fairbanks to mento flats. It’s fly in only, on a float plane. I think we caught about 12 but lose twice that many. All over 8 pounds with most in the 15-20 pound range. It was a blast.
Of course, we showed up with 20 pound test bass rigs and no leaders. A professional fisherman was also on the flight and he laughed at us but gave us a bunch of lures and leaders to use since he knew we were going to lose a ton of rigs. Of course we smoked him with the all powerful beginners stupid luck.
