I have grown up in Raleigh NC and used to attend NC State football. Monte was the head coach for a short while 25-30 years ago and had a very unique approach to taking the field prior to kickoff. The theme song of the Lone Ranger would play over the PA system and he would ride in on a white stallion. He and the horse would full out sprint around the field. Most rediculous thing I have ever seen in sports.

He would've been better off coming in dressed as a werewolf, running with a wolf pack and howling at the moon. What the hell does the Lone Ranger have to do with State's Wolfpack???

It is a brash thing to do if true. I like it. Not sure why I like it... but I like it. When I was growing up going to LSU games, my favorite opponent was either FSU or USC, who, you guessed it... used to have mascots on horses. Go figure.

Funny you brought this up. On their way to Memphis this Sunday night (recruiting trip) they're stopping in Shelbyville. Monte is looking to buy a Tennessee Walking Horse to ride through the T next season.
