came in here with impossible shoes to fill. Is probably under one of the most high presure programs in America. He comes and gives us three ten win seasons (amidst the worst hurricane in la history) a sec, and national title. has a mediocre season after winning a title, brings in the number 1 recruiting class and puts together a impresive coaching staff. He stayed here in spite of losing his dream job, represents lsu and La better then any coach i have ever seen, and handles himself, the players and his buisness in textbook respectable fashion.
Yet people still don't like him and want him to fail. I dont' feel sorry for him but that would be hard to live with every day. He has imposible standards with some of you. I guess some people have never thought that all this is possible maybe because he is a great coach after all and has the respect of coaches, young men and their parents across america.
The guy will do whatever it takes to win at lsu. Including getting rid of some of his best friends.
bet if ya cut him he bleeds purp and gold

we are some of the worst fans in the country. it's pretty sad, but true.
i remember holding up signs that read "dinardo for president", "sean peyton for governor", etc... only to have a sign like this the following year "dinardo must go". we really suck.

A great coach is yet to be determined. He obviously made a tremendous mistake hiting Peveto and Mallory. It definitely cost us three games. Who knows what happened behind the scenes. But, I heard he had tremendous presure put on him to make changes on the defensive staff. If we hire Chavis and Ogeron we will compete for another national championship. That goes without saying.

People would rather Miles fail so they can be right and say "I told you so" than have Miles be ultra-successful at LSU and they be wrong.

The guy will do WHATEVER it takes to win at lsu. That is LOYALTY which we should embrace because it is so hard to find nowadays. He is getting rid of life long friends and colegues in the process. That was not easy but he did it for us.

I guess Lesticles took care of business. He got Chavis and hired a guy that some wanted as DC for the D line coach.
Les not only stepped up he crushed it.

He blew it this year, and screwed the pooch for dumb reasons. A good CEO would never do that to his company. He doesn't get a pass for that.
All is true about what you said, however. He has been very good for LSU (one critique of the former years could be that he blew it again vs. Auburn in 06, we would have had another NC that year as well but that's the past).
One valid criticism is that Miles doesn't perform until his back is against the wall and he's facing heavy criticism or the possibility of defeat. His major flaw is that he perfoms best when he has to pull victory out of the jaws of defeat instead of just getting victory in the first place. He doesn't have a killer instinct.
Another valid criticism is that he doesn't inspire confidence from the fan base and the media (yes, I said the media, they shape public perception), and that is very important. His bumbling press conferences and twisting of words is agonizing for anyone in the media or fans who are just trying to get a nugget of information about the program. Miles obviously thinks it's cute to tweak the media and the fanbase but it's going to come back and bite him in the arse (see Ar-KANSAS and other dumb comments)if he doesn't stop it.
He deserves some credit, especially for very very good recruiting. My only reservation here is that the recrutiting was awesome before this year too. What happened to those players? They performed like dogshit this year. Who is coaching them up? Who is developing these young QB's? This defense which has struggled mightily?
Bottom line, the man is a good man and represents LSU admirably, but I'm not sold on his coaching (not recruiting) abilities. Just because he's a good man does not mean he is a "great" coach. Too many people say he is great, he is not a "great" coach, he's just above average.

well he did have brain surgery. And anyone who thought we were going to set the world on fire this year are the only ones disappointed now. What did you expect? You lose two qb's and almost your entire secondary and linebackers. The only mistake i see is promoting malveto but i understand it. He was having faith in his coaches. I mean who wants to work for a guy who never promotes you?

Could it have been self inflicted pressure? Could he have seen his own short comming and made a correction?
I'll use your CEO reference and say that many of them would continue to beat the company over the head with a bad decision because they made it and everyone else would have to pick up the slack of suffer.
Miles is admitting he was wrong and made changes with a vengence.
