I’m getting an insulated aluminum cover soon. How hard do you think it would be to install can lights under it? Would you just cut into the aluminum like you do other can lights?

Do you have a pic of what exactly you're cutting into? You can probably cut it easily if it's what I'm thinking of. Go with retrofit can less LED lights instead. Less heat and brighter.

Sample can light

This is an example of the cover and the type of can light I was thinking.

Yes, you can certainly do it. I'd also consider adding a fan beam so you can install a ceiling fan to move some air under it. You will need that to support the weight of the ceiling fan, but wouldn't need the same for simple can lights.

Yep, I have two fan beams but didn’t want the can lights on the beam.
