DynaTrap Mosquito Trap

I'll quote a couple things from an article I just read:

One thing I will mention is that when a person wants to attract a lot of insects they get a UV/black light, the best are from old bug zappers and traps like this. When they want to attract even more insects they get a stronger UV light. There is a whole hobby around this idea called "blacklighting" where people set up sheets at night and use UV lights to draw in insects. It is how you can take good photos and get a ballpark account of what is active in an area.

While, naturally, you have bugs on your property, it is certain that you don't have nearly as many hanging around as you would if you had a blacklight on all night every night. If it flies that trap will attract it to your area. Different hours of the night will bring different insets......by the thousands, especially moths and beetles.

There are a lot of bugs in there, but if you zoom in, you don't really see a whole lot of mosquitoes. I'd also wager a very large sum of money that the lady who wrote that article had considerably more bugs around her place after she put that trap up than she had before, and being that she put it on the eave of her garage, I'd bet she noticed them a lot more, too.

The light is an incredible lure. The trap seems to work, but the piles of insects it traps seems to be a numbers game. If you build a trap that considerably increases the number of insects in the immediate area, of course it is going to catch a few of them.

I have a 1 acre sized one and it definitely made a difference for my yard but it needed to be on for about a week or two before seeing a notable difference. Like the guy above me said, don’t open it every day as it takes some time for the bugs to die first .
