Looking for suggestions for a decent, semi inexpensive set of clubs for teen getting into the game.

Bonus if you have any used clubs for sale!!

Thanks!

I use these: LINK 6i through GW with decent graphite shafts for $240. If you go with steel shafts, $180.

When you say teen, how old? My 16 yr old probably outgrew them now but he had the Callaway XT set and my 13 yr old has the Cobra set. Both seem to be really good. The older one is a lefty by the way. Only way to get decent lefty youth clubs is online.

He’s about to be 14.

5’9” so I figured normal adult clubs?

I’m not a golfer so no clue…

5’9” is standard adult lengths.
Find something with graphite shafts or light weight steel to help with club weight.

Go to your local golf shop and look for used sets of game improvement irons. Any of the name branded sets will be fine. They should be able to check his club head speed and lie angle. This will let you know what flex shaft is needed and if he is has a standard, upright or flat lie angle. You can also find brand new sets of name branded clubs that are 3 to 4 years old. Just getting started I would get him a Driver, 5 wood, 4 hybrid, 5-Aw iron set, and depending on the Aw loft 54 or 56 degree sand wedge and 58,60 lob wedge. He's 5'9" so standard length clubs are fine.

I’m by no means trying to advertise but I have a callaway edge set I used as a starter set lying in the closet. Would that be of interest to you? Stiff shafts

What are “game improvement “ irons?

Is that a brand?

Game improvement irons are a type of iron. Ping, Callaway, Taylor Made, etc. all offer GI irons. They are more forgiving, fly higher, and fly further for high handicappers who have lower swing speeds. The face and sweet spot are large which corrects off center strikes.

The opposite would be blades. Pros use blades because they can shape the ball and control height better.

The game improvement used ones are perfect - spend a lot on instruction - once a week - no group lessons
