Have a fairly new Martin D Jr-10E bass like this, with a Fishman pickup

I recently got a Fender Acoustasonic 15 amp free through a work thing. Obviously, I know this isn't a bass amp but I was curious to see if I could use it just to mess around at jams and such. However, the bass doesn't seem to work with the amp.

I've plugged several other instruments I have into it and they work fine.

I've previously plugged the bass into another bass amp and the pickup worked fine (a couple of weeks ago) although I haven't tried it since.

I also changed the battery on the pickup today and didn't have any change.

Is there a reason this particular amp wouldn't work with the bass, is the frequency too low or something? I've previously used a bass on a guitar amp (at low volume) and it didn't sound the greatest, but did work. This is baffling me.

I'd try another amp again and see if it's still functioning properly...

Absolutely not. It may sound like arse, but it will make sound. Have you tried a different cable?

It’s your impedance dog. That fishman is a piezo and you most likely need to get a preamp or DI box that will get you at the proper impedance.
That pickup may work with some amps, but not all.

It's a Fishman Sonitone BT-1 which I thought has a built in preamp.

Like I said, not really a big deal but I'm just curious why it doesn't work, will try another amp soon.

It’s a piezo. Very high impedance. Most preamps in amps are built for line level impedance which is around 500ohms. Piezo is usually 1 to 10 mega ohms. Some preamps can handle that, some can’t.

Ah, I know very little about pickups and electronics, what would you need to make it work? Is it even worth messing with?

You’d just need some kind of outboard or onboard preamp. That’s gonna run you minimum $150-$200. I’d just go with an amp that works with it.
