Have any of y'all been to this place? I want to take my son on a quail shoot for Christmas, but Covey Rise is $549 per person.

It is great as an entire family or just a couple of people. All 3 of my sons grew up going and loved it.

Wayne runs a great show, if covey rise is the “Filson” experience, Then Thornhill is the “Wrangler” experience.
His place is right down the road from mine and Wayne is a good friend, I go several times a year and always have a good time, you and your kids will too, and all for about 1/3 the cost of covey rise

Thanks for the advice, I just booked with him for December! I've never done this before, so any tips on shot size, proper clothing, etc., will be appreciated.

Highly recommend. I've been on dozens of hunts with him. Always entertaining.

16 gauge is the biggest you want to use. 20 and 28 are optimal. .410 if you're good enough. 8 shot light bird loads or skeet loads. IC is the most choke you want. SK and C are better.

You don’t say how old your son is or if he has any experience hunting. Get him some practice smoothly shouldering his gun and quickly picking up the targets. Also, dogs are always in the line of sight when upland bird hunting, so y’all will need to get used to being aware of that.

Wayne will teach him, just make sure your son has thick skin, Wayne will ride his arse, but if both of you listen you will learn and have a good time

TROUT VALLET QUAIL PRESERVE

For all you Mississippi baws, TVQ does a great job. They're in Charleston, MS. Much cheaper than Thornhill. You can also request them to put out pheasants instead of bobwhites but it get's pricier obviously.

Cal is a friend of mine. Great guy. I also highly recommend his operation.

Not even close, just checked out his website $300/half day for 12 birds

Wayne was $12/bird last year, less than half the price of TVQ

Granted their place has a much nicer lodge and amenities, but no one can compete with Thornhill's prices

I appreciate the correction.
I meant TVQ was much cheaper than Covey Rise and the prices were comparable to Thornhill. Typed that incorrectly.

No problem just wanted to clear that up, yes Covey Rise has gotten stupid expensive, I think the same 1/2 day hunt with them would be well over $500, granted they have a phenomenal place, first class all the way around , and I have enjoyed my time spent there and Thorhills place is a step back to the 1970's, but if you are comparing price no one can beat him, and he provides a great experience
