The pirates haven’t announced who they are starting but not outside the realm of possibility that we have a Skenes vs Nola matchup.

If Skenes starts on Friday he pines up to pitch Tuesday in Houston, if he pitches Saturday he lines up to pitch that Wednesday

Seems you’re missing the weekend series against Arizona before Houston.

I’d imagine he would miss the STL series & throw at Arizona. Probably miss Houston

As a pirates fan I could see them running him out as the 5th starter to give him extra rest which would slot him Tuesday the 23rd against St Louis. That St. Louis series is more important due to the wild card race. That would mean Monday against the Astros.

Eh I don't think he is. If Skenes pitches that Friday on 5 days rest he would pitch again the 24th against St. Louis, the the Pirates have an off day before Arizona. So you would be looking at
19th vs Philadelphia
24th vs St. Louis
30th vs Houston

Or
20th vs Philadelphia
26th vs Arizona
31st vs Houston

I realize there may be some speculation here until Pirates make an official announcement, but FanGraphs projects Skenes next start to be Tuesday, July 23rd.

Would be a long break for him, even with the 1 inning he will throw at the AS game. He pitched last Saturday with Keller going today. Pirates probably won't make a decision until Wednesday/Thursday though.

Skenes has been pitching every 6 days (5 days rest). If he pitches Friday 7/19 against Nola, then he could pitch then he'd pitch 7/31 which is the game 3 in Houston. In order for us to see him against Houston, we'd likely have to see his first start after the all star game be

Friday July 19 (unlikely IMO) OR
Tues, July 23 OR
Wed, JUly 24

If he pitches any game b/t 7/19 and 7/23, he won't pitch in Houston most likely.

They have been giving him at least 5 days rest and they have indicated that they will not throw him too much. I doubt they ramp him up considering they just pulled him with a no no after 99 pitches during a 1-0 game. They are committed to saving his arm. Our best bet that is likely, is they don't throw him until 7/23 and he'd pitch again on 7/29 in Houston.

That’s exactly what I’m seeing now so it’s probably legit.

Nola vs Keller Friday

Skenes throwing Tuesday 7/23 so we should see him throw in Houston on 5 days rest

Surprised they’re not throwing him against Philly, but I guess that gets him more rest
