Any recommendations on where to stay? Resort or airbnb?

We stayed in a cabin using vrbo right up the mtn a tad from the resort. Cabin was part of club that let us have access to the resort. Great trip! You'll enjoy

we stayed in an airbnb near the Lake on the French Broad River. Really nice area and good smallmouth and largemouth bass fishing in the river if that's your thing. They release rainbow trout closer to the dam in town. Chimney Rock is nearby. I'd suggest renting a boat and enjoying the lake one day.

Stayed here in 2017. From what I remember it was nice.

This is a pretty good option if you'll have kids with you. It's a pretty large development on the top end of the lake.

It has both townhomes/condos on the golf course and larger houses away from it. I've been twice for a smaller family reunion and stayed in one of the larger houses. I think the condos are a little outdated though. Houses can be nice depending on what you can find.
The clubhouse area has tennis courts, basketball, putt putt, a pool with a mini lazy river, beach on the lake front, etc. I think it's just 1 18 hole course, but I've never played it. Lots of close by hiking and bike trails. I think there are a few restaurants there too, but I've never been to them. It's not upscale, but has enough to keep families occupied for a weekend.
