Excellent film. Great philosophical study.
Ivan means John which references John Locke. Film incorporates his epistemology based on experience as a source of revelation, hence, his “father” is God as Ivan has to trust his senses to determine a path of reality. In a way Ivan is blind by sight, given to rely on the testimony of others via the phone.

It’s difficult to recommend a movie where the character spends the entire runtime talking on his phone while driving, but it works 100% thanks to Hardy.
For those not familiar with it, this is most spoiler-free description. Other descriptions from popular sources give away too much.

It hits you at the end when they finally zoom out and show all the other cars. Everyone has life issues going on, but we are so engulfed by our own we fail to see it.

very underrated movie. its not for everybody since its one man in a car the whole time but i loved it. Tom Hardy's best performance IMO
