Based on June weather in the south, you'd rather your pitcher complete the top of the inning when the rain delay comes in the middle of the inning.

Also, baseball is a lot different than basketball where 8/9, 4/5, and 2/3 are a lot closer. #2 seed represents ranks from 17-32 and #3 seed represents 33-48. So as a 3 seed, you could be playing a team that was snubbed from hosting. As a 2 seed, you could be playing lower level at-large team, or a conference tourney winner that wouldn't have made it in if they hadn't won their conference tourney.
