I'll tell you like I tell the businesses that I contract work out to: if you're in business, if you don't do your due diligence and you frick something up, my arse may be on the line, but when they come for me, I'm telling them to come for you, and if shite hits the fan, I'll come for you too. I'm just a "lowly, ignorant" consumer.

A business takes on the liability of the product or service they're offering. The onus is, and should be, on them to perform their work correctly.

It's the same concept as the way the law views drug dealers vs. consumers: The dealer (the business) is the, "expert." It's their arse on the line, and the ruling on jail time versus the two reflects that.
