There are entire generations of people in government right now just like him.

Whatever reason they had for getting into government, it’s now solely about their own personal advancement vis a vis championing the cause du jour of those in power.

Trump and those in his base are a threat to their power and are being treated accordingly. They’ll justify any action to avoid losing their fiefdoms, as was shown with the authorization of lethal force for the mar a lago raid and the way the J6 defendants were treated.
