I am actually a lot more surprised when NFL players don’t go broke. It’s the culture.

Google says,
quote:
By the time they have been retired for two years, 78 percent of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress; within five years of retirement, an estimated 60 percent of former NBA players are broke. Aug 18, 2023

Same with a lot of retired boxers who earned huge sums of money during their careers. Mike Tyson earned $685 million in his career and filed for bankruptcy in 2003.
Evander Holyfield earned $230 million during his 26 year career and has a net worth of just $1 million now.
The great Joe Louis died owning the Federal Gov. tons of money is back taxes and virtually bankrupt.
